The challenge
A collector wants to find a card and buy it, not think about smart contracts. At the same time the existing POLS community needed a reason to come back. So the marketplace had to feel like a good shop for collectors, and the token had to be worth something there.

What can you buy on the Polkastarter Marketplace?
Rare trading cards, video games and collectibles, verified and with ownership on-chain. You search by title, platform or publisher and filter by category, price and condition. Next to single items there are lootboxes, like the Gumball Packs, which give you a random collectible.
What is inside a Gumball Pack?
A random collectible. Packs cost between $0.10 and $50, depending on the pack. The live ticker on the marketplace shows what other collectors just pulled and won. At events you can also unlock packs by bridging, staking or finishing quests.
How do you earn XP on Polkastarter?
Through activity on the platform. What you do on the marketplace earns XP, and that moves you up in level. Your position shows on a leaderboard for all-time, weekly and monthly. Because of the weekly board, every week starts a fresh round.
How is a purchase on the marketplace protected?
Payment runs through on-chain escrow, and items are verified before they are listed. With escrow the money is locked until the trade is complete, so buyer and seller do not have to trust each other. After that, ownership of your item is recorded on-chain.
