WhatsApp AI agent
Getting the same questions on WhatsApp every day? An AI agent can answer them for you. After five too. We set it up for you and think along about what it should and shouldn't say.
More and more customers would rather send a message than an email. Great, until your phone buzzes all day with questions you have answered a hundred times. A WhatsApp AI agent picks those up. The tricky conversations simply land with you. We built our own agent, and we set it up for you too.
What a WhatsApp AI agent does for you
What does an agent like that actually do? It reads incoming messages and replies based on what it knows about your business. Your opening hours, for example, or how returns work. Not sure about something? Then it hands the conversation to you. And you can always step in yourself.
Who is this for? Mostly businesses that get a lot of repeat questions. It also helps a lot when your customers would rather message than call. Only a handful of messages a week? Then an agent won't add much. Just answer them yourself, that's quicker.
The Business app or your own agent through the API
There are two routes. Which one fits you?
The first is the agent Meta built into the WhatsApp Business app itself, the Meta Business Agent. You switch it on under Tools in the app. No coding needed. It learns from your website and your product catalogue, and from your Facebook Page. Only a few simple questions? Then that's a fine place to start, and we'll just tell you so.
The second route is your own agent through the WhatsApp Cloud API. That's the one we built. You keep using the Business app on your phone, and the agent answers through the API on the same number. That's called coexistence. The upside? You decide what it may say and when it hands a conversation over. And if you want to connect your own systems later, such as a CRM, that also runs through the API. How a connection like that works is in MCP: how to connect AI to the software you already use.
How our own agent works
What makes our agent different? It only answers from what you give it. Your business information, your frequent questions and the next steps you want. Prices, promises or links that aren't in there, it doesn't make up. Does a link or an amount slip into a reply that isn't in your details? Then it holds that back.
Not sure about something? Then it says a colleague will take over, and goes quiet. Reply yourself from your phone and it pauses that conversation. Four hours by default, but you set that yourself. It answers in your customer's language, with Dutch as the default. The replies are written by Claude from Anthropic.
We built it for our own number first. That way we know how it works before we set it up for a client. The full story is on our own WhatsApp agent.
What you sort out before we start
What do you need? A business WhatsApp number you already use in the Business app. Access to your company's business portfolio at Meta, because that's where you connect the number. And information the agent may use. Think of your opening hours and the questions you get most.
On top of that, think about what the agent should stay away from. Which topics would you rather handle yourself? We put those in its handover rules.
How we set up your agent
How does that work in practice? First you connect your number to our service. If you like, you share your recent chat history while you do that. Then we fill the agent's knowledge together. Your business information, your opening hours and your frequent questions. After that we set its tone and the handover rules.
Only when that's right do we switch it on. Until then it stays off and you answer everything yourself, just like now. What the setup costs, we work out with you up front.
WhatsApp, AI and GDPR
Is this allowed? Yes, if you set it up properly. An AI agent almost always processes personal data. A name, an order number. Customers sometimes type more than you'd expect. So GDPR simply applies.
You stay responsible for the conversations with your customers. We process them on your behalf, and we put that in a data processing agreement. Which data passes through and who receives it is in our privacy policy. And since 2 August 2026, the AI Act requires you to make clear that someone is talking to AI. A short notice is enough. What else to sort out is in our checklist for SMBs. What the AI Act means for you in general is in what the AI Act means for SMEs.
What's the difference between your WhatsApp agent and Meta's?
With our agent you decide what it may say and when it hands over. Meta's agent you switch on yourself in the Business app, and it learns from your website and catalogue. Our agent only answers from the information you give it, and holds back links and amounts that aren't in there. For a few simple questions, Meta's is often enough.
Can I take over a chat from the WhatsApp agent myself?
Yes, at any time. Reply yourself from your phone and the agent pauses that conversation. Four hours by default, but you set that yourself. When the agent isn't sure, it says a colleague will take over and goes quiet. Topics you'd rather handle yourself go into its rules.
Can I keep using the WhatsApp Business app next to the agent?
Yes, that's the whole idea. You connect the number you already use in the Business app, and you keep using that app as usual. The agent answers through the API on the same number. Send a message yourself from your phone and the agent stays quiet in that conversation for a few hours.
What do I need to get a WhatsApp AI agent set up?
A business WhatsApp number you already use in the Business app, and access to your company's business portfolio at Meta. Beyond that, your opening hours and the questions you get most. Also think about which topics you'd rather handle yourself. Those go into the handover rules, and then we set up the agent together.
Does a WhatsApp AI agent work in Dutch?
Yes. Our agent answers in your customer's language, with Dutch as the default. If someone messages in English, they get an English reply. The handover to a colleague also happens in the customer's language. The replies themselves are written by Claude from Anthropic, based on the information you provide.
An AI agent on your WhatsApp too?
Tell us which questions you get every day. Then we'll look together at whether an agent really saves you time. Is the answer no? Then you'll hear that too.
